1907 - Birth of Roger Vivier
Roger Vivier was born in Paris, in the eighth arrondissement. His father managed several prestigious restaurants. At the age of only 9, Vivier was orphaned of both his father and mother. He was raised by his maternal aunt. After attending secondary school he enrolled at the École des Beaux-Arts, hoping to become a sculptor. It was by chance that friends who owned a shoe factory asked him to design a few models. The success he achieved was decisive: Vivier left the École des Beaux-Arts, abandoned sculpture, and decided to pursue the trade of shoemaking.
